9 _ NEW GOVERNOR APPOINTED. London, August 25. Major-General Sir George Bridges has been appointed Governor of South Australia. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. [Major-General Sir George Bridges was born on August 20, 1871, mid entered tho Armv in 1892. He served in South Africa with the Imperial Light Horse, and was in command of tho West Australian Mounted Infantry from 1899-1901, being severely wounded, mentioned in dispatches twice, brevet of major, and being awarded the Queen’s Medal with six clasps. Ho raised and commanded the 'I ribal Horse, and served in Somaliland from 1902-4. being again severely wounded, and winning special mention and the DS O During his service in tho Great War from 1914 to 1918 he was mentioned in disnatches seven times was awarded tho C.M.G.Jn 1915, C-B. m 1918 and created R.C.M.G. m 191.1. Despite his rank—he was promoted Major-General 911 service—he was ngjain wounded throe times. His most recent appointment was that of head of tho British Mission Allied Armies of the Orient, which he held from 1918 to 1920.]
