FIREMAN KILLED
SIXTY-FOOT FALL TO GROUND TWO OTHERS INJURED TRAGIC MISHAP IN SYDNEY By Telegraph.—Pbebs association. -Copybight. (Rec. August 28. 0.45 a.m.) Sydney, August 27.
A fire attended with loss of life occurred to-night in Adams’s Hotel,which extends from Pitt to George Streets. It started in tho fourth floor, and gutted that, also the third and fifth flqors. The firemen Wore using a Simonis extension ladder, eighty-five feet long, and worked from its own base by electricity. The top portion from some unknown cause suddenly swung out. Fireman Brown,, who was sixty feet up in the air, fell to tho rodf of a lower building, and thenco to the ground. Ho wag lulled. Fireman Leonard Chappell fell forty feet, and was seriously injured. He is in a precarious condition., A third fireman, Dwyer, was slightly injured. Hie damage done by tho fire was very heavy. A large number of inmates had to make a hurried exit, and lost heavily.—Press Assn.
