A PUBLIC “EXECUTION”
TRAFFIC HELD UP IN AUCKLAND MAGICIAN HAS TO PAY FOR ADVERTISEMENT BY TELEGBAPH.—PBESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, August 26. As a result of the “execution” performance in Queen Street on Monday last, the magician Nicola was charged at the Pob’ce Court, before Mi Poynton, S.M., with having caused obstruction of traffic. For the defence. Mr. He-man said it had not boon anticipated that anything like such a crowd would assemble. The scaffolding had been passed by the inspector, so there was no objection on that score. A feature of the performance was its the whole thing being a matter of minutes. Mr. Mackay, for the prosecution, replied that the trams had lost over 50 miles of traffic, the period being a busy one, as the people were going home to lunch. The service had been disorganised to give defendant an advertisement.
Tho Magistrate said there was no doubt of obstruction. Tho defendant had received a very fine advertisement, and he was fined £5 and costs.
