The effect of the present speculation in German marks by Auckland investors will increase the formerly rather lax interest taken in the German reparations question and other European post-war problems, stated #n Auckland stockbroker (reports the “Herald’). Holders 'of marks or kroner, francs or lira, would inevitably watch with closer attention affairs on the Continent, much in the same way as they followed the form of a. horse they had backed for a race to be run weeks or months ahaid. Dealings in foreign currencies on the exchanges in the world’s great capitals had always given a peculiar interest and meaning to cable nows on foreign affairs to the otherwise! most unimaginative and short-visioned broker, and the same quickening of interest in cable news from abroad should result from Aucklanders’ “dabbling” in foreign currencies. Incidentally, this buying improved o,notations for a particular currency, hut the reckoning would come when all the amateur holders wanted to market their purchases.
