The Government had been fortunate in having effected a purchase of 12,000 tens of sugar when the price was at its lowest. Now it hnd used this sugar to average the price wi<s* the new supply. The conseouence was that sugar would cost £26 ss. per ton f.o.b. from September 1 in Wellington. That would enable the maximum retail price to be fixed at 3?d. per pound from September 7.
