PRICE OF SUGAR
A REDUCTION TO BE MADE A reduction in the price of sugar was announced in the House of .Representatives yesterday by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. E. P. Lee). The Minister said that he had been able to complete arrangements for the supply of sugar at least until the end of the coming jam season. The Government had been fortunate in having effected a purchase of 12,000 tens of sugar when the price was at its lowest. Now it hnd used this sugar to average the price wi<s* the new supply. The conseouence was that sugar would cost £26 ss. per ton f.o.b. from September 1 in Wellington. That would enable the maximum retail price to be fixed at 3?d. per pound from September 7.
