UNITED STATES TARIFF
MEAT AND CATTLE DUTIES INCREASED. ' (Rec. June 30, 0.10 a.in.) Washington, June 28. The Senate Tariff Committee has increased tho various meat and cattle duties fixed by the House of Representative's —cattle -weighing 10501 b from 1J cents to 2 cents per lb. : cattle above 10501 b.. from 2 to 3J cents pclb.: fresh beef and veal, from 2 to 3) cents per lb. ; sheep and goats are fixed at 2 dollars per head, instead of 1 cent per lb. as the House provided; fresh mutton from 1J to 2j per lb. The were carried only after » violent partisan debate in which the Democrats declared that the food bill of the American people would be increased by many billions of dollars yearly.—Aus.-N.Z.
