A personality formerly well known on the Wellington waterfront passed away at the ..Wellington Hospital on Monday in Mr. Richard Harman, at one time Wellington’s best-known waterman and boat builder. Mr. Harman, who was 86 years of age, was born in England ana went to sea as a youth, and drifted into the Navy. Ha was at one time a seaman on the Royal t yacht Albert and Victoria, and whilst there he, was awarded a Royal Humane Society’s certificate for sav--ing life. He used to relate that he was a leading seaman on the warship which Viscount Jellicoe first joined as a midshipman, >On completing his' time in the Navy he emigrated to New Zealand, and eat up hero as a waterman and boat builder. Ho had a fine boatshed and skids at Waterloo Quay, which were greatly used by the yachtsmen of a quarter of a century ago or more. / Mr. W. H. Field. M.P.. at last night’s meeting of the Tararua Tramping Club was re-elected as president, and was also made an honorary life member of the club. In moving tlio motion, Chief Guide Voeseler said that as a private citizen and member of Parliament Mr. Field had worked in season and out of season to inspire a love of the out of doors, and to advocate the preservation ,0f... New Zealand’ ..natural scenio beauty. The motion was. carried with enthusiasm. The New South Wales Cabinet discussed a proposal to send the State Orchestra to the Empire Exhibition. It was decided to take no action.
