SUICIDE MOTIVES
FEARS AND HOPES. Unusual reasons tfor ending their lives were given by two women who committed suicide in New York on April 13. The tragedies, though entirely unrelated, occurred almost at tho same time. In the one case, the widow of a physician, Dr. Abraham Glickstein, threw herself from her bedroom window to the pavement because she feared that the woman who is charged with having killed her husband was to be acquitted. Dr. Glickstein was shot in his office some months ago by a veiled woman, who escaped. A few days later she surrendered to the authorities and made a full confession. She Is the wife of Air. Charles S. Raizen, a toy manufacturer in Brooklyn, and said that Dr. Glickstein had hypnotised her when she was quite young and had exercised . an evil influence over her even after her marriage. Determined to liberate herself, she made an appointment to see the physician in his office, and there shot him. The trial of Mrs. Raizen is now impending. Until a few days ago she occupied the cell adjoining that of Miss Olivia Stone, a nurse who was also charged with murder. Miss Stone was acquitted after her trial. “If Miss Stone goes free the woman who killed my husband will go free too/’ said Mrs. Glickstein. “All a woman these days has to do is to kill a man and then plead temporary insanity. Unable to bear the prospect of seeing the woman who killed hr®' husband .go free she threw herself out of the window. The other ease is that of Airs. Alaude Fancher, wife ‘ff a clerk, who first poisoned her twb year old sou Cecil, and then swallowed a dose of lysol. As tho result of attending a number of spiritualist lectures she believed that she could from the spirit world beyond guide her husband to happiness anil prosperity. She left letters behind protesting her sanity and giving her reason.
