Owing to stress of weather the -smo-B coastal steamer Cygnet put in at Wei- ' lington at 4 p.m. yesterday. The vessel, which left Picton at 11 p.m. on Monday for Lyttelton, arrived off Welds Cove (10 miles south of Cape Campbell) at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Three hours previ- , ouslv, it is stated, mountainous seas ruled, and tho wind blew with hurricane force. Tho vessel turned round shortly after 7 a.m., and put in at Port Underwood for shelter, arriving there at noon. The Cygnet resumed her journey at B a.m. yesterday, but when she had proceeded as far as Cape Campbell baa weather was again encountered, ana being short ot coal and. provisions it was deemed expedient to put in at Wellington. The .only apparent damage sustained by the vessel is the displacement of a few deck fittings. Captain A. R. Pryde is acting-master of the Cygnet, relieving Captain Murray, who is to rejoin next week. THE WAINUI. The Wainui, which left Wellington at noon yesterday, arrived at Picton at 610 p.m. She was to wall at 11 p.m. on tho return trip, and can be expected to ar- „ rive early this morning.
