PLAY AREA FOR CHILDREN

s A BOYS’ INSTITUTE EFFORT, At the monthly meeting of the Management Committee of the Boys’ In Btitijte and S. A. Rhodes Home for Boys, held last night, the president, Mr. G. 21. Troup, reported on the steps taken to provide a play area for' children. on the grounds immediately in front of the hospital. The institute has secured a lease of the property, the area being 340 feet by 110 feet, and the Hospital Board will erect a suitable fence and prepare the ground, the institute finding the necessary apparatus, which is estimated to cost about £lOOO, and also arrange for competent supervision. It is hoped that the City Council will provide the necessary conveniences for women and children. Seeing that the effort is a community one, it was resolved to hold a street flower day on Friday, July 5. Various committees were set up to make arrangements for the street day, and it is hoped to raise the amount required Mr. Troup stated that it was intended to make the play area the most up-to-date in the Dominion.
