The “Sydney Daily Telegraph” suggests that Sir Thomas Henley (ex-Min-ister of Works) is joining several other Coalitionists to form a “cave” with the object of keeping the State Cabinet up to the collar. Dr. Prescott, principal of Newington College, has prepared a statement in reply to the report that the New South Wales Cabinet intends to restrict free train travelling to pupils of State schools. ' He shows that 74,000 pupils are educated in non-State schools, resulting in a saving of over £500,000 a year to the Government. In tho High Court at Sydney, the Workers’ Industrial Union of Australia applied for a rule nisi to restrain the Coal Tribunal from dealing, with the dispute in the coal-mining industry on the grounds: (1) That there was no industrial dispute; (2) that if there was a dispute no specific dispute had been referred to tho tribunal; and (3) that the Coal Tribunal had no jurisdiction to investigate tho dispute because it was not validly constituted under tho Industrial Peace Act 1920, or under tho Constitution. Mr. Justice Higgins dismissed the first, two grounds, but granted a rule nisi on their third ground.
