SHEARERS’ DISPUTE

OWNERS WANT NEW AWARD. An industrial dispute is now pending affecting the shearers and shed hands of the Dominion. ■ New Zealand Sheepowners’ Fed- ’ eration has written to the New Zealand Workers’ Union, of which the shearers are members, asking that a Dominion conference be arranged with a view to reaching an agreement for a new award for the shearers and shed hands. It is suggested that the conference should be held .at as early a date as possible. Air. C. Grayndler, secretary of the New Zealand Workers’ Uhion, has replied stating that he is in favour of a Dominion conference, and that he will place the whole question before the different shearers’ unions. It is likely that the conference wifi be held at Wellington in June. Air. Gravndler informed a reporter this week he will probably be in a position to announce the date. A meeting of shearers is to be held to-morrow night, to consider what course to adopt.
