INDECENT ASSAULT
JURYMEN’S REGRET. The hearing of the case against Arthur Brown (Mr. Stevenson), charged with an indecent assault on a male (Edward' Napier) was concluded yesterday. His Honour, in the course of his address to the jury, said that Napier should have appeared side by side with the prisoner. Brown "'was found guilty. The foreman of the jury asked leave to express their deep regret that Napier was not dealt with as well as Brown. His Honour refused to grant probation or to impose a fine. It was sad to see a man who had borne a good character for sobriety, but it was well known that sexual perverts were found anijongst otherwise exemplary citizens. He was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labour. The i Crown Prosecutor explained that as Napier was brought as a witness in the Lower Court, and- consequently in the Supreme Court. he could not be proceeded against there. The mistake was neither his nor that of the senior sergeant.
