REDUCTION CAMPAIGN. London, April 27. Tn consequence of the distress caused by the high taxation of foodstuffs, many members of the House of Commons are inaugurating a campaign to reduce taxation. A prominent Labour member of the House of Commons indicates that his partj- will go further, and fight for fhe total abolition of imposts on foodstuffs, notably tea and sugar duties. Lobbyists are of opinion that ( the Government will not dare to reduce the iiicome tax without simultaneously faking threepence off. tea and a penny off sugar, which, with a shilling off the income tax, would cost fifty millions. —Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. CABINET AGREES TO REDUCTION (Rec. April 28, 5.5 p.m.) London, April 27. The “Daily Chronicle” says Cabinet has agreed to a reduction'-of asi illing in the income tax, and a reduction in the taxation on tea and sugar by Id. per lb. Letters will be reduced to ltd. This, with other Postal reductions, will cost six millions, which must be taken from the estimated surplus on the Post Office vote. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
