ALLEGED rrf.ach df NEW HOUSING LAW. Charlotte E. Green was charged ’ with not being a person to whom the War Len-iclation Amendment Act. 1916, applied 'did on March 6. 1922. recmire from Mr=. Beatrice Jessup the sum of £5 in addition to rent for a dwellinghouse. contrarv to Section 9 of the Housin'* Amendment Act, 1920. It was stated that it was the first prosecution of the kind in the Dominion. Beatrice Jessup stated that she heard that a. flat nt 17 Royal Street, Rerhamnore, w«s to let.* She saw Mr. Green, who said he had not. but that his wife had. Mrs. Green then came in and witness asked what the forms Wore, nnd was told 255. w<r weefle. Ralnh Milburn Green, retired ehemist, said that his wife formerly owned the house at 17 Royal Street. He told the ladv that he wanted a month’s rent in advance. He did not ask for the sum of £5. The Magistrate said there was plenty of room in this case for misunderstanding. In his opinion the lady no doubt misunderstood what had been said. The case would be dismissed.
