PURCHASE OF TENNIS COURT SITE AUTHORISED. A meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held last night in the Borough Chambers. The -Mayor, Mr. F. H. Mather, presided. The matter of hard tennis courts, inquiries into the formation of which had been made since last meeting, was mentioned by the Mayor, and it was stated that Mr. McLean was making inquiries from Wanganui. The Minister of Internal Affairs authorised the purchase of land for £lOOO for the purpose. The Hutt County Council wrote consenting to the erection of a pound and stables at the tip site. Details have yet to be arranged. Appreciation was recorded of the gift by Mrs. C. Baker of a piece of land at Totara—Muritai Road corner to facilitate straightening the road. The secretary of the Wellington Hospital Board wrote that the borough’s contribution of the year’s estimate was £9O os. 6d.. £l4O less than last year.
