BARQUE MANUREWA
FEARS FELT FOR HER SAFETY. 1 (Rec. April ?7, 10.5 p.m.) Sydney, April 27. Fears are felt for the safety of the barque Manurewa now twentyseven days out from Sydney to Clarence River, en route to New Zealand. Although equipped with wireless, which was overhauled before sailing, no word of her has been received since her departure. The theory is advanced that as there was a strong southerly gale +he day after she left, her aerials may have been carried away, and tho vessel blown far out of her course, and then becalmed. The Alanurewa wns in ballast, but had sufficient provisions to last for her return trip to New Zealand, also plenty of water.—Press Assn.
A report on tho activities of the Reserve Committee for the past year (which has already appeared in these columns) was presented to the City Council last Jnight. Councillor T. Forsyth paid a tribute to the fine work of the director of reserves, making special reference to the beauty of the Botanical Gardens. Councillor B. G. H. Burn also endorsed tho appreciation of the council of Mr. McKenzie’s work in connection with the city’s reserves.
