DAVIES DEFEATED AGAIN. (Rec. April 27, 5.5 p.m.) Melbourne, April 27. AVatson (Victoria) defeated Davies (New Zealand) in the tenth round of the chess tournament. AVatson is loading in the competition with eight points.—Press Assn. [This reverse puts Davies out of the running for first place, as he can only make a score of 8J by winning his three remaining games. C. G. Watson, who now holds the Victorian championship for the sixth time, is sure of 9 games, as he gets a win by default from Ealing when the final round is played to-morrow. Round 10 also included the important fixture Viner (present Australian champion) v. AVallnco (champion of Now South AVales). Round 11 includes the games Davies v. Steele (Victoria), AVallace v. AVatson, and Gundersen (ex-cham-pion of v. Viner. In round 12 Davies plays Wallace, AVatson plays his old club-rival Gundersen, and Viner gets a win by default from Esling. Davies meets Gundersen in the final round to-morrow.]
