MURDER OF THE MAYOR OF MOREE. (Hec.j April 27, 11.30 p.m.) Sydney, April 27. John Curran, found guilty of murdering Thomas Hogan, Mayor of Moree. has been sentenced to death. The defence entered a pica of insanity. Tim accused, in giving evidence, blamed Hogan for the loss of a stadium which he built at Moree. but for which he failed to obtain a license to hold boxing contests, anil went shearing. M’hile ho was away Hogan, as Mayor, obtained permission of the Chief Si'cretnry and broke tho locks of the stadium, and held a boxing contest for patriotic purposes. Ho demanded to seo Hogan’s authority for entering, and during an altercation the tragedy occurred.—Assn.
