In regard to the proposed alterations and additions to the Carterton School, the Education Department informed the board yesterday that the Minister was prepared to consider the remodelling and slight additions to the old building. The chairman explained the details of the alterations proposed, which included adding 10ft. and making two classrooms into three, the cost being about £BO. Mr. Moss remarked that the committee favoured a side school, and he personally believed that : would be best. The chairman remarked that the side school did not affect the issue. It was decided to forward the proposed alterations to the Carterton Committee. In an interview on Germany, published yesterday, Mr. S. Gordon was made to state that the average wage for the unskilled worker was 500 marks per month. The word “month” should have read “week.” At the opening of the Mornington side school recently an offer from Mr. Bothell was mentioned to provide additional access to the school from the north-east. The Education Board decided to accept the offer. In yesterday’s issue Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., was reported as saying at the opening of the Hutt flower show : “It was a characteristic of the Englishman to hide from the profane gaze of the passer-by anything beautiful that ho possessed; to put high fences around’ it if it were a beautiful garden. He would advise them to do likewise.” . Mr. Wilford’s advice was nob to do likewise, the “not” being inadvertently omitted. Concerning Fortunes.—Many men have made enormous fortunes from inventions, tome simple, some very intricate. This would not have been so had the inventors been unable to patent the work of their I brains. Have you an idea ? Get it protected.
