WELLINGTON COLLEGE UNIFORM
I PRINCIPAL AND A NEWSPAPER. Th'ms report to the Board of Gov- ;■ ernors yesterday, Mr. T. R. Cresswell, ; principal of Wellington College, re's ferred to an article that appeared in I a local paper concerning the school [ uniform. !' “The allegations,” said Mr. Cressi well, “were so utterly false, and by I implication so damaging, that I imme- ; diately put the matter in the hands I ■ of my solicitor. The proprietors of : the newspaper, finding it impossible to ; substantiates or justify the statements I - made in the article, have since pubI lished an unqualified retraction and r apology, and have paid all legal exI penses. Under the circumstances, I do not wish the board to take any t further action. Similar misunderstandings will easily be obviated in future if persons wishing to comment on college affairs will be so good as to s get ! their facts in the first instance from the board or from me personally.”
