COLONIAL OFFICE

TREATMENT OF DOMINION REPRESENTATIVES MINISTER’S ATTITUDE CRITICISED STATEMENT BY SIR JAMES ALLEN by telegraph—Press association, —copyright. (Rec. March 31, 5.5 p.m.) London, March 30. It is common knowledge in official circies that Australian representatives in London receive treatment by certain of the Colonial Office which is greatly resented. “I do not know whether he is a fool or something else,” said one Agent-General, commenting on one official, “but certainly he is most unsuitable to deal with representatives' of the Dominions.” Sir James Allen, the New Zealand High Commissioner, goes beyond criticisms of officialdom, and opens the wider question of tho Ministerial attitude in the following statement under his own name: “The situation will be most disastrous if it conies about that British Ministers should find themselves so occupied with other matters that they cannot give some attention to Dominion needs. The present position is not satisfactory. lam most willing to make every excuse for the extraordinary conditions prevailing now. After all, the Empire can only hang together by mutual good will, which must be shown by everybody.” Sir James Allen is determined to press the matter to the uttermost limits, if a remedy. is not otherwise achievable. No surprise will be caused if the matter is specially referred personally to Mr. Lloyd George. — United Service.
