WELLINGTON RACING CLUB . AUTUMN MEETING PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY , The fields for to-day’s races are again bn the large side, and as on the opening day, the various events wear’ a very open appearance. Yesterday’s frain did not reach Trentham and the going will be equally as good as on Thursday. Racing will commence at noon with the High Weight Handicap. Eerie won so well-on Thursday that the few pounds extra that she wilt have to carry may not stop her, more ■ especially as she was going better than any lof the others at the finish. It would 1 appear that L. Morris, who rode her, can get more out of her than any of the other riders who have ridden her. Alteration also finished well on the first day, and he is sure to be well in the market to-day. The chances of the well-bred Blue Hall must be considered, as he appears to be improving with racing. Truthful, Strategy and Bodyguard are fresh horses in the Hutt Handicap. As a three-year-old last year the firstnamed ran a great ra<fe in this event. Grotesque will be all the better for the racing he has done, and he may be back to his Avondale Guineas form today. Blackmail ran a good race in the Thompson Handicap, and in the weaker field she may go well. Cold Steel is at the bottom of the handicap, and he should do better than he did on Thursday, as he seems to be coming on with racing. Dissertation was noticed going on at the end of the Tinakori Handicap on the first day, and she is likely to have a big following for the Muritai Handicap to-day. At Napier she showed fair form over this distance, and she is thoroughly seasoned 1 with racing. Redlogue came from a long way back in the apprentices’ race on the first day, and with a more capable rider in the saddle he should give a good exhibition. Five-Eighths is another horse that has not yet given of his best. It is a great pity that. Gloaming is not to start in the Trentham Gold Cup, as his presence would have added a lot of interest to the result. Amythas has not been able to do much work and may be backward,;'which . will-favour the chances of the crack three-year-old Winning'’Hit. ' The St. Leger winner, Kick Off. is to take his place in the field, and Trespass will also be a starter.

Marqueteur and Gasbag may bo the ?üblic fancies in the big event, but nsurrection will also have a large number of supporters, as he is_ racing over a distance that will suit him better than the Thompson mile. . Sycorax got a bad.passage in the big race on Thursday,, and her supporters will again rally ’in her favour to-day. Of the others, ‘ nothing reads better than Kilgpur, who will have the going to hie liking.. . v The thousand pounds two-year-old taco has drawn a big field, although disappointment will be felt at the absence of the crack Epitaph. Maybe her trainer prefers the chances of Rapine at the weights, and there is no doubt that the Martian colt is -smart, and also he will improve a lot as the result of his race on Thursday. Ares has a chance second to none, • as any juvenile that can extend Rational over seven furlongs is more than smart. Killashandra has already showed' that he can gallop, but .the straight six furlongs woiwied him, on .. the last two occasions that he essayed it. Rational is nicely treated’ in the open sprint event, when one remembers that he carried Ost. into third . place in the C. J.C. Stewards’ Handicap. Absurdum is a fresh horse, and the first day’s place-getters are sure to run well forward to-day. Mireusonta now meets Still Sea on 101 b. worse terms, and that should bring them together. • Danger Zone ran so well on the opening day that he- will have a good following in the concluding event today, but there are several fresh horses thaY iyill make the position interesting for the top-weight. Petunia, Landbird, and Merry Day can all muster up a lot of ’ pace, while the locally-owned Mou-toa-S Gift will also be in the market.
