ALLIES’ DEMANDS ON GERMANY
DENOUNCED BY DR. WIRTH BY TELEGRAPH—PREBS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT. 1 C’ .'in, March 28. Dr. Wirth, the Chui' ellor, addressing tho Reichstag, denounced tho demands of the Reparations Commission. The Allies’ demand for a further 60,000 million marks in fresh taxation was impossible in the condition of Germany, and the Parliament of the country could not impose such burdens on the people without consulting them. It was not possible to raise a fraction of the amount, it was scarcely possible to raise another sixty millions. There seemed to bo an idea that Germany was extravagant, but she was doing everything to restrict her expenditure. The stabilisation of the mark was impossible without an international .loan and the revision of the Versailles Treaty.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. . [The Reparations Commission handed GermaUy a Noto demanding equivalents of £36,000,000 payment in 1922 in cash, and £72,500.000 in kind. Germany is also required to raise £46,000,000 by new taxation, and inaugurate a drastic scheme of reauction of Government expenditure, which must be submitted to the Entente by April 1. The Noto, which was practically a time-limited ultimatum, also insisted that Germany should raise internal and foreign loans, in default of which the Commission proposed to levy an impost on German capital.]
