THE “O.M.” DECLINED
“The two most eminent men in English literature at tho present moment ar.p Mr. Shaw and Mr. Kinlingfl’ save the “Newstateeman.” “Mr. Kipling, it is said, was offered an O.M. and refused it. Air. Shaw's reputation is the kind which it is difficult for the State officially to embellish: it is still, from its very nature, in the-stage of aggression and discussion. It must be remembered that tho O.M. is a crown of wild olives pressed upon a weary but triumphant brow; therefore not very Incoming to the brows of either 'Mr. Shaw or Air. TVells. Air. Kipling, for besides being a man of genius he is bard of ihe Empire and the most world famous of English authors, could have worn it appropriately. He certainly ought to have been offered ..it long ago.
