AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. A most enjoyable smoke concert was held at the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association Club Rooms last evening and was largely attended. Mr. W. Perry presided, and in the course of a few remarks eaid that he was very pleased to see so many fresh faces among the gathering, which he hoped would be the forerunner to many ether social functions. The association was at the parting of the ways. The membership had increased considerably during the last twelve months, and some effort was needed by both the executive and the members to continue ths progressive move that had been started. .Realising that the foundation of tho association in the future would bo the spirit of esprit de corps and camerad'erie amongst inember/r the executive held, an appeal day foi tho purnose of raising funds for the purpose of renovating and improving the club rooms so that returned soldiers might gather together and enjoy themselves: also that returned soldiers visiting Wellington might be able to look up old comrades’. As a result the association had bankdd about £975. and within, a week or so he hoped the amount would be over £I(XK). When the work was nut in hand in the near future it would be given to those returned soldiers who were out of work, of whom there were 200 in this city. This was the fourth smoke concert, hold by the club and' he hoped that they would bo held regularly in the future-, also that dances would be arranged as sooji as the social room was improved. lie wished on lichalf of the association to thank all those who bad so generously assisted the association in connection with its recent appeal for funds. One toast. "Fallen Comrades,” was honoured. \

During the evening entertaining items were contributed by Messrs. R. Moore. L. Thomas. M. Gilmore. Wilkinson, N. E. Aitken, Tinney, and S. Allwright.
