DANNEVIRKE MEETING HARTGILL MEMORIAL TO ASKARI by telegraph—special correspondent. Dannovirke, March 2. The Danncvirke Racing Chib's autumn meeting was concluded to-day. Rain commenced to fall after the second race, and continued heavily throughout the afternoon. The totalisator handled £11,725, compared with £27,532 on the second day at the corresponding meeting last year. The total investments for the meeting were £24,967, against £55,977 for the Cup meeting last year. Tho acceptors all started in the Hack Hurdles. Complex, who was very sore in the preliminary, was neglected on the machine, and the ancient Tornea started favourite. Bairnsdale made play for a mile, when Sling Camp took charge, and he appeared to be winning when he fell at the bottom of the course, and the same fence brought down Bairnsdale and Complex. Tornea and Misty Wav© were then left to fight out the finish, and the latter won by a length. Native Call was beaten off. A. McDonald received a fractured wrist, but, the other riders were not hurt.

Suspicion. Marcus, and Volito wero taken out of the Hack Scurry, and tho public then went strongly for Matareka. with Big Push sezind choice. At the start the latter rushed to the front and Sea Bar was left at the post. Big Push carried on the running from Melting Moments, but in the straight Ambitious (Absurd—Ursula) finished' strongly, and won by two lengths from Big Push. Matareka was well back, and Melting Moments finished fourth. Passionless was again made favourite in the open sprint ®yent, Mireusonta being second choice. The latter rushed to the front soon after the start, and. followed by Passionless, he led the whole way. Passionless tried to run to him in the straight, but the leader hold a two-lengths’ advantage at the post- Makere was a length away, and then came Automoana. The four acceptors for the Nursery Handicap were all fancied, but Wairarapa was the actual favourite. The favourite was in charge all the way, but at the finish he only had a head advantage from Gold Light. The Linnet was a neck away in third place. Gold Light was carried out wide or she would have won.

A field of five contested the'Hartgill Memorial Handicap, Askari being a good favourite, with Zircon second choice. The race resulted in an easy win for Hyrax after a very rough race, during which Askari was cut off a couple,of times. The latter finished on well and beat Zircon for second place. Royal Gift was fourth. A protest was entered against the winner, and after hearing the evidence the stewards decided to reverse the judge’s placings, and award the race to Askari and place Hyrax second. Yankee Dan and Dissertation; set a fast pace in the Telephone Hack Handicap, and thev piloted the field into the straight. \her. Suspicion put in a claim,. and in a punishing finish Dissertation won by a nock from Yankee Dan, with Suspicion the same distance away. Slave Mart was the next to finish. The track was very heavy when the Open Wolter Handicap came on for decision. Kick Off was first favqwrite. and after a good finish he outstayed All Cerise and won by a neck after the latter had looked like making a runaway race of it, Convention was several lengths away, and then came Black Art.
