FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S PURCHASES. Melbourne, March 2. The deficit sustained by the Commonwealth in importing sugar to make up tho Queensland shortage during two seasons totals two millions. Tho Sugar Council passed a resolution that no increase in the price of sugar under the present agreement is' necessary, but an assurance is asked from tlie Commonwealth that the agreement will bo renewed for five years.—Press Assn.
