' CHICAGO MEAT WORKERS’ STRIKE RIOTS & OTHER DISTURBANCES By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright • ■ Chicago, December 8. The strike of workers in tho meatpacking plants, who re.fu.sed (o agree to a reduction in wages, assumed serious aspects when a large mob of men, women, and children rioted. Police and many other persons wore injured. The strike, which union officials estimate affects 26.000 workers throughout the country, notably in Chicago and Kansas City, is being attended by serious disturbances in the latter cities. The Governor of Kansas threatened to call out the military. The strikers attacked an elevated train, injuring forty people, half of .whom are dangerously hurt. The known casualties in last night’s rioting are one dead, two dying, nine dangerously wounded, and iift-y injured.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
