Mr. W. T. Goodwin, Government Orchard Instructor at Motueka, has been promoted to Assistant-Director of the Horticultural Division of the Agricultural Department, in succession to Mr. J. A. Campbell, who assumed tho Directorship on the retirement of Mr. T. AV. Kirk. Mr. Goodwin came from Tasmania some ten years ago, in order to join the Department. He will be succeeded at Motueka by Mr. G. Stratford, who recently returned from an extended visit to England.

On severing his connection with the State Coal Department, Mr. M. Tigue (after 37 years in the Government employ) was presented by the staff with n handsome rug as a token of esteem. Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M., is expected to return to New Zealand from Samoa this month. Mr. Wilson (says an exchange) will probably be attached to tho magisterial staff at Auckland.

Mr. M'Gregor Wright, formerly of Wellington, and now Mayor of Woolston (Christchurch) has been in Wellington this week as a delegate to the Municipal Conference. The ratepayers of Woolston recently decided to amalgamate with Greater Christchurch.
