GOLF

The match played at the Napier Golf Club’s recent tournament between Mrs. Williams and Miss Brown was, says a Napier correspondent, one of the most interesting games ever played in New Zealand. Mrs. Williams was 2 up with 2 to go, hut lost the two holes to Miss Brown, who finished tho hist hole with a brilliant 4. The nineteenth holo was halved in a perfectly played I, as was also tho twentieth. At the twenty-first Mrs. "Williams sliced her drive, and In attempting a low shot under a tree the ball struck a branch and bounded out Into the fairway. This left her to play two more, and she succeeded in placing a pretty cut mashie shot on the green with her third shot. Miss Brown failed tn take advantage of the mistake, being short with her second, and tho holo was halved. The twenty-second holo was played by both players quite correctly, and the game looked never ending. The twenty-third, twenty-fourth, and twentyfifth were nil played without any mistakes. At the twenty-sixth Miss Brown pulled her tee shot clow up against the fence, while Mts. Williams played her shot straight on the pin. Miss Brown could not get clear in her secoTfd. nnd took three to get the green, while Mrs. Williams holed a good 3, nnd won what must lie a record match for New Zealand.
