SERIOUS ASSAULT ON A CONSTABLE
ALLEGED CULPRIT ARRESTED. By Telegraph —Press Association. Dunedin, September 18. The police arrested Allan Aitcheson, of North-east Valley, on Saturday night. Tho man was wanted on a charge of causing actual bodily harm to Constable Hesse about a month ago. The policeman, it is stated,- was assaulted with his own baton when ho called at Aitcheson’s house to settle a domestic difference. He was knocked unconscious: Richard Leckie, a dairy farmer, was also arrested on a charge of inciting Aitcheson io resist arrest. It appears that tho police had a strenuous struggle with both men before the arrests wore effected, Leckie using a flail to some purpose.
