Glover. C. H. Chapman, G. Nash, A. M'Curdy, E. Windley, AV. T. Cotton, E. Vino, J. AV. Butler, G. Petherick, Dr. J. K. Elliott, Mesdames Snow and M’Vicar. The following report and recommendations of the Finance Committee were adopted.—" That a further sum of .£l2OO Jiag been received from the estate of the late .Tamos Powell, that this sum, together with the previous instalment rf £1750 be placed on fixed deposit (the first instalment amounting to £2500, with tho Government subsidy of £5OO, Jias been placed on deposit and is sot aside for proposed additions at the Nurses’ Homo). That the bonus of three farthings per hour allotted under . the recent award to the carpenters .be paid oa from November 1, 1920. That consent be given to the executors of the Clpilford estate to raise sufficient money by way of second mortgage, in order to pay the legacies on the Johnsonville property, provided that tiro term is limited to two years. That two memyc'rs be elected to fill tho vacancies on tiie Finance, Property, and. Policy Compiittee during the temporary absence of the Bev. H. Van Staveron and Mr. C. JI. Luke. That the Wellington South Progressive Society be informed r that this board Intends making changes in [regard to the property fronting the hospital when it has acquired all the •notions. Hospital Committee’s Recommendations, The following clauses in the report Of" the Hospital Committee were agreed to: —That, as none of the six applications received for the position of assist, ont dental surgeon was considered as being suitable, further applications bo Invited. That Mr. J. E. Hutchings be appointed junior clerk in the registrar’s office from July 20. That authority be given for flexible brackets and two transformers for the use of electrical instruments in idle, dental surgery (£l5), replacing worn-out steel funnel from the boiler at the Nurses’ Home by a brick chimney and flue (£50); and various repairs in the different institutions caused through tho recent heavy gale. That accounts for the month amount, ing to £7541 14s. 9d. be passed for payment. The committee reported :—That the returns and reports of the month of the Government Bacteriologist, officer in charge V.D. clinic, dental surgeon, and district nurse be adopted. The Radiol, ogist reports. that during the month 65 diagnostic examinations were made at the X-ray department, and that five Fin. sen light treatments and seven X-ray treatments were given. That the aver, ege number of patients under treatment last month was 388. Thia day there are in the hospital 359 patients, 22 s/arlet fever cases, 15 infantile paralyris, 13 diphtheria, and 14 venereal cases. There are 29 occupied beds in the Ewart Hospital for consumptives. Social Welfare. . The Social AVelfare Committee’s reoommondations that were agreed to were as follow: — That accounts amounting to £1072 Bs. sd, bo passed for payment. That the board communicate with the Minister of Labour with a view to ascertaining what relief works' are avail, able to tho unemployed. The committee also reported:—That the volume of outdoor business during June showed a considerable increase over that of the preceding month, 188 cases .being dealt with against 97 cases in May. Compared, with tho corresponding month last year, there was also an increase, the figures being 118 cases as against 106. The grounds of application in tho cases dealt with, were as below: Unemployment, 30; desertion, 17; sickness, 21widowhood, 19; old ago, 8; imprisonment, 3; undetermined, 7.
