STARVING PEASANTS OVERWHELM RED ARMY STATE OF SIEGE IN MOSCOW AND PETROGRAD ARREST OF TROTSKY REPORTED By Telegraph—Preen Association— Copyright (Rec. July 28, 8.20 p.m.) London, July 28. The "Morning Post” correspondent reports that hordes of starving Russian peasants are marching on Moscow, destroying everything en route. 'they have entirely devastated tho town of Tamboff, 300 miles south-east of Moscow, overwhelming a Red army sent to stop them. The peasants have killed and eaten the homes of tho Bolshevik cavalry, the fire brigades, and municipal services. Red troops refused to shoot. After hunger demonstrations and strikes, 20,618 women were shot in Petrograd. The "Daily Express’s” Berlin correspondent states that the Soviets have proclaimed a state of siege in Petrograd and Moscow. /A Russian paper in Berlin reports that Trotsky has been arrested. —Aus.-N.Z.
