WHAT IS DEBENTURE TAX? Many investors do not fully realise tho fact that 7| per cent, interest free of debenture tax is a better return that 8 per cent, or 8J per cent, subject to tax. Tho Government levieo a tax of 3s. in tho £ on all debenture interest paid to tho debenture-holders. This eum is paid to the Government by tho Company on behalf of the debenture-holders and, if the debentures aro not free of tax, deducted from the interest payment to the debenture-holdor. For instance, 8 per cent, .debentures not free of tax will return £B, less 245.. equal £6 16s. per cent, per annum. The 7J per cent, debentures issued by Macky, Igjgan, Caldwell, Ltd., aro payable free of tax. That is, the Company wilj pay the Government the debenture tax on behalf of the debenture-holder, and will not deduct it from tho interest payment; so that ■very debenture-holder will receive 117 10s. in full per y»ar for every £lOO invested. That this is the best proposition offering to the small investor to-day is proved by the wonderful response.
