Vice-Regal. The Governor-General, accompanied by Lady Jellieoe and the Hon. Lucy Jellicoe. arrived in Invercargill yesterday on a first official visit to Southland. They were accorded a public welcome in t ! bo afternoon in the presence of a very largo crowd. The Vice-Regal party will be in the district until the beginning of next week.—Press Assn. Regret was expressed at last night's meeting of tho 'Thorndon Bowling Club at the deaths ot Mr. H. J. H. Elliott, one of the founders of the club, and Mr. R. Darby, another esteemed member.

Mir. Knox Gilmer, the well-known dental surgeon, of Boulcott Street, died yesterday morning, as the result of pneumonia, supervening on an attack of gastric influenza. The nows of his death affected a very wide circle of friends, by whom he was held in high esteem. Mr. Gilmer, who was born in Greymouth in 1878, was the youngest son of the late Mr. Hamilton Gilmer, and coming to Wellington as a child, he attended the Terrace School under tho late Mr. G. Macuiorran, Later he went to Wellington College, where he 'became skilled in sport and prominent in scholastic attainments. Be graduated in sport as a member of the College Rugby fifteen and its cricket eleven. On leaving college he entered the service of Messrs. Levin and' Co., but felt that firm to study dentistry under Mr. M. E. Turrell, of this city. After learning the ground-work of that profession here, he went to Philadelphia (U.S.A.) and Edinburgh, where he passed the highest examinations. Ho then returned to ellington, and had practised' hero ever since. Mr. Gilmer was at one time president of the Wellington Dental Association, and was an honorary surgeon to iho dental branch of tho Public Hospital. lie was for years a keen and respected member of tho Wellington and To Hiwi Bawling Clubs, and maintained a live interest in all sport. During tho war ho offered his services to the Government, and as captain in tho Dental Corps did excellent work at Trentliam. In 1907 he married Miss May Seddon. daughter of tho late Right lion. K. J Seddon, and loaves two children. His brothers are Dr. Hamilton Gilmer, of Wellington, and Mr. Samuel Gilmer, solicitor, and his sisters are Mrs. (Dr.) Herbert (Wellington) and Mrs. Ziele (New South Wales). The funeral will take place at 9 a.m. to-morrow.

Mr. Harry Arthur M'Comish, bandmaster and honorary lieutenant of the Ist Battalion, Wellington Regiment, has retired from the service. Mr. Alexander Gray, general manager for Australasia of the Gordon and Gotoh Proprietary, has just completed l a tour of the Dominion. He will return to Melbourne, via Auckland, at the end of the week.

Mr. Robert Hill, who was secretaryorganiser of the Town-Planning Association. Save-the-Children Fund, Citizen Soldiers* Carnival, and Greater Wellington Election Committee, has joined tne Goldberg Advertising Agency, Limited.
