ANNUAL CONFERENCE RESOLUTIONS PASSED The annual conference of the New Zealand Labour I’arty was continued yesterday. The conference received the report of the committee appointed io devise ways and means of achieving the objective of the parly, viz., socialisation of the means of production, distribution, and exchange. The report recommended: —(1) That fur the purpose of achieving the object of the party, industrial and Parliamentary machinery should be utilised; (2) that banking and all the principal industries should be nationalised, and that such services and supplies as could be beet operated in a limited area should lie municipalised; adult franchise, and extended powers to be granted municipalities for this purpose; (2) that nationalised industries should lie governed by boards upon which the workers in tiie industry and tho community should have representation; (4) that there should be established an elective supreme council by all nationalised industries; (5) (hat there should be a Labour research and information bureau, and Labour educational institutions, in which the workers should be trained in the management of nationalised industries
The report was adopter! in its entirety, subject to its endorsement by alii Hated bodies. The conference carried the following motion“ That in recognition of the fact that this is an era of social production, this conference declares that craft organisation uh a working-class weapon is obsolete, and pledges itself and all its future representatives to organisation of the workers along the lines of industry, as shall be decided by the Organisation Committee of this conference.” “We affirm,” the conference stated in another resolution, "that when tha powers of Government will have been captured by our working-class majority, the first essential to ft reconstructed New Zealand will be tho immediate establishment of a State bank to embrace tho entire credit system.” ’ With regard to war, the conference passed this resolution: "That this conference declares in favour of the settlement of all international disputes by international arbitration, and further recommends the workers in all countries to form councils of action for the purpose of preventing future wars.” After a discussion on the immigration question the following resolution was passed: "That a comprehensive statement covering the question of immigration. housing, and tho industrial situation in New Zealand lie prepared, ami forwarded to all the principal industrial Labour organisations, tho Labour, Socialist, and radical Press of Great Britain and Ireland, and the British Labour Party, such statement to include the strongest warning to the British workers against coming to tho Dominion at the present time; nnd that in the meantime the national executive be instructed to co-operate with the Alliance of Labour and the New Zealand Workers’ Union and other industrial organisations in this connection.” "The question arose,” a member of tho Press committee of the conference expiained to a. Dominion representative, "owing to tho fact that more than eight hundred immigrants arrived at Auckland this week alone.”
It was- decided to add to the platform of tho party a clause providing for advocacy of compulsory enrolment and compulsory voting at elections.
