MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Masterton, July 12. The monthly meeting of tha Masterton County Council was held yeserday, Mr. W. Dalziell presiding. A deputation from the Upper Plain Water Supply Committee waited on the council with referenceto a demand by the council that the committee place a now culvert over a water race on one of the county roads. It was pointed out by the deputation that there was a culvert at the point under discussion, but that it did not extend over the whole width of the road. It was resolved that councillors would look into the matter and decide whether the removal oi trees on the road side would remedy the trouble experienced. A resolution contained in a letter from the Stratford County Council, urging a universal £ for £ subsidy on hospital board levies, was supported, it being pointed out that some of tho boards received a subsidy of 305., while the local board’s subsidy wns only 20s 3d The ranger reported that during the past month he had impounded 12 horses and 20 cattle. Councillor Moo™ moved, nnd it was agreed, that the engineer report as to whether it would be practicable to remove gravel from tho Runinahunga River with the aid of scoops and convey if to tho metal crusher.
