MASTERTON GOLF CLUB BALL

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Masterton, June 22. The annual ball of tho Masterbon Golf Club was held in the Municipal Hall tonight. There were about 250 couples present, including visitors from all parte of tho Wellington province, and the function was declared to bo tho most successful of its kind held in; Masterton this season. That this was so was due entirely to tho painstaking labours of the joint secretaries, Miss Eunice Robieson and Mr. B. Syverston, who were ably aselated by a committee of gentlemen and the following Ladies' Committee:—Mesdames Hugh Williams, Guy Williams, C. Bennet, W. H. Robieson, Guy Mace, Norman James, D. Buchanan, G. W. Hornabrook, H. Lord, Lawrence, A. Casolberg, Laing, H. P. Harrison, K. M'Bean Stewart, R. M'Konzie, and H. H. Dawson. Credit must also bo given to the innstors of coremonies, who performed duties in a very creditable manner. These were Messrs. R. Milne, R. M'Konzie, G. W. Homabrook, and G. C. Williams. Prior to the commencement of the ball H dinner was given at the Hotel Midland, during which music was supplied by an orchestra specially engaged. A feature of the ball was the decorations. Those of tho dance hall were carried out under tho supervision of Mosdames Alfred CaseTberg, H. J. J- Lord, H. PHarrison, and E. W. Homabrook. Lycopodium. fernery, and palms supplied a predominating colour of green, while relieving touches were obtained hero and there by vari-coloured rosettes, streamers and ribbons.. The stage was fitted up as ’a lounge, the front being decorated with forms and palms. An orchestra from Palmerston North played behind a bamboo enclosure at the far end of the hall. Mesdames Guy Williams, Moser, Guy Mace. and C. Bennett were responsible for the decorations in tho supper room. Hero festoons of lycopodium were also prominent, relieving colours being supplied by mauve and yellow ribbons suspended from tho ceiling, while from tho centre of the celling was hung a basket of yellow chrysanthemums draped with mauve ribbons. Tho tables were decorated with vases of yellow chrysanthemums, mingledwith which were violets and other flowers of the same colour and maidenhair fern. The corridors and vestibules of the building were transformed into sitting-out places, made comfortable with easy chairs, ottomans, and carpets. Among tho debutants at the ball were the Misses M. Noble and Thurston. Among those present were Mrs. Guy Williams, wife of the president, who was wearing black satin with sequin trimming, relieved with spray of tulips; litre. Laing, mauvo charmeuse, with opal trimming; Mrs. A. H. Daniell, oyster coloured brocade; Mrs. Alfred Caselberg, black satin with sequin 'rimming; Mrs. E. Payton, black charmeuse, with jade green trimming; Mrs. Kendall, navy blue taffeta, with gold trimming; Mrs. Cumming, swoet pea pink glace taffeta; Mrs. R. M'Konzie, buttercup tulle over chiffon taffeta; Mrs. Norman James, black charmeuse, with copper shaded trimmings and net; Mrs. D. Buchanan, black satin with irridoscont sequinned trimmings; Mrs. Luoaj. silver and scarlet crepe de chine; Mrs. H. J. W. Lord, pale pink charmeuse; Mrs. W. H. Robieson, cornflour pink charmeuse; Mrs. Dawson, KTAck taffeta, trimmed with sequins; Airs. W. H.
