HOTEL HOURS

INTERESTING POSITION IN NEW MOUTH IVALES. Sydney, Juno 22. An interesting legal position has arisen in connection with the liquor question. The Liquor Act of 1919 provided that a referendum should be taken before June 30, 1920, on the question of prohibition, the hotels meanwhile observing 6 o’clock closing. Tho referendum was postponed in consequence of the cost involved. The liquor interests contend that the law expires on June 80, enabling the hotels to revert to late hours in the absence of other legislation. The Minister of Justice, however, officially announces that 6 o’clock closing of hotels will continue until another referendum has been taken.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
