ROSA LUXEMBURG

ALLEGED MURDERER ARRESTED HALF LYNCHED BY BERLIN CROWD By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. June 9, 5.5 p.m.) Berlin, June 8. Tho alleged- murderer of Rosa Luxemburg has lieen arrested. After tho murder in January, 1919, it was impossible to trace tho supposed murderer, 'who was believed to be Otto Runge, an officer of one of Berlin’s free corps which inculged in pogroms against the revolutionaries. Runge on Wednesday, under the false name of Drull, asked for work at the Berlin Labour Exchange. Some workmen recognised him, saying, “You murdered Rosa Luxemburg.” Drull replied: "No, I only shot her.” He attempted to escape, but the crowd- pursued him, ripped off his clothes, and half lynched him. He was unconscious when the police arrived, nnd is now in hospital, seriously injured—Aus.-N.Z. Cabls Assn. [Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, two Sparticus leaders, were arrested after tho suppression of the riots in Berlin, and wliilc being taken to prison were killed, it was said, by their guardians. The former was recognised for some ye ars as the most extreme of all German Socialists. She was a Jewess of obscure origin, between 50 and 60 years of age, and was described as an extraordinarily eloquent speaker, equally fearless in criticism of her "comrades” and in conflicts with tho authorities. Her extreme views gained her on the Continent the name of "Red Rosa.”]
