A somewhat interesting vessel at present in Australian waters is the Lloyd Sabando liner Oitta di Genova, which left Fremantle recently for the Eastern States, in continuation of her voyage from Genoa. Like many other vessels which come to Australia from time to time, the Citta di Genova is an old friend under another name. How many shipping people in Australia (asks an exchange) will recognise in this vessel the well-known and popular Norddeutscher Lloyd s.s. Gnelsenau? Such, however, is what the Citta di Genova really i«. For some years prior to the outbreak of war she was a regular visitor to Australia, along with her sister ships Scharnhorst. Roon, Bulow and others When hostilities broke out the Gneisenau was lying at Antwerp, and she wav promptly confiscated by the Belgian Gov ernment. She was not declined to remain an the property of the Belgians for very long, for unon the fall of Antwerp she once more became German property, but when the Germans entered the nort they found the Gneisenau lying sunk in the harbour. For the best port of the time during which Antwerp was in German hands the Gneieennu remained i>"de) water, but wna eventually raised. How ever, she was again fated to change hands, only this time she became Italian proneriv, and upon belne handed oVer was given the name she now bears. Whether she still retains her nassenger accommodation is not known, but the probabilities are some of it has been removed tc give more space for cargo. The Citta dl Genova was built in 19C3. and registers 8185 tons gross and 4947 net. ' MARAMA’S PASSENGERS.
