JitNUARY’S NEW BECOBD. Although the tramway system continues to break its own records every month as far as revenue is concerned, these increases are, as a rule, beaten by the rise in working expenses. The record lor the month of January is a case in point. Whilst the revenue for the four weeks ended February 2 was £<l3ol greater tnan that of the corresponding period of 1920, the working expenses increased by The figures for tho expired 44 weeks of the financial year show the drift <-veil more strikingly. The revenue to February ’ was £57,148 greater than for the corresponding period of 1919-20, but the increase in the working expenses—coal and labour mostly—amounted to £70.92<The comparative figures for the month
