INVESTMENTS

In these days when so much is uncertain he is a wise man who gives particular attention to his investments.

At a. time when most assets appear likely to revert to their pre-war values or thereabouts ths safety of one’s principal is more than ever the chief consideration, and debenture issues which undertake to return one’s capital intact on a definite date nnd pay a fair rate of interest are for this reason greatly in demand.

The security, of course, must bo good and the interest remunerative. These are considerations which receive general attention. But important ns they are to the individual, there is a third consideration which it is the intention of this article to emphasise, and it is the use to which our moneys are put. In this Dominion, and indeed every other, it is a matter of vital importance that its citizens should invest their savings in directions which help to maintain and increase production. This applies to all sections of the community, whether they be professional mon, merchants, shoukeepers, or what not. Although there are some sections of the community who think otherwise, New Zealanders almost without exception play some part in the production and marketing of our products, or in the feeding of those who do, and our whole livelihood depends in the first place upon the quantity of our produce and the price we obtain for it. It follows. therefore, that institutions, whose chief concern is the development of production, are entitled to the financial support of the investing public, always provided the security offered is sound and the rate of interest reasonable - ( In tho advertising columns of to-days issue there is a concrete example lhe big Farmers’ Company for the Wellington Province is offering for sale XIOff.OOO in Debenture Stock, bearing interest at Ci per cent., and as the company pays the investors’ income tax, and assets totalling .£252.000 are offered as security, tho investment must be a good one from every point of view. That these big producers companies are of great importance to the settler in the country goes without saying, but very few townfolk, one may venture to think, fully realise the extent to which their own businesses depend UP Ol } the operations of such concerns.—Advt.
