PRESIDENT EXPECTED TO VETO
BILL.
Washington, February 17.
The Senate passed the Emergency Tariff Bill by 43 votes to 30, which is les% than the two-thirds majority necessary to override the President’s veto, which is considered as certain to be imposed. The Bill, which was heavilyamended and is likely to cause conflict in the Lower House, remains effective for ten months from the date of approval. It provides for tariffs on. wheat of forty cents per bushel; cattle, thirty per cent, ad valorem; fresh or frozen beef, veal, mutton, lamb, and pork, tw.o cents per pound; wool, unwashed, fifteen cents per pound; washed, thirty cents; scoured, forty-five cents.
