(By Telegraph-Press Associatlon-Copyrlghi A Reuter message from Paris states Ihat M. Poincare has been elected President of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.
Mr. E. C. Vardon, member for Sturt in the South Australian Legislative Assembly, has been appointed to the vacancy in the Federal Senate caused by the death of Mr. Guthrie.
The Prince of Wales and the Duke of York are being rapidly promoted in the various degrees of Freemasonry. On Wednesday they joined the Royal Arch Chapter, .states a Reuter message from London. .
Owing to competition the rates for steerage passengers from Australian ports to Hongkong have dropped from £2O to £4 10s., with a likelihood of further reductions.
The Federal Cabinet has approved of a refund of the additional duty in every ease where excess duty has been paid in accordance wUh the former departmental practice on goods in stock and unsold at tho date of the High Court judgment. It has also decided that no claims will be made for duty short paid, and no refunds made where duty has been overpaid.
