LIFEBOAT FOR WELLINGTON
SHIPOWNERS’ ASSOCIATION MOVES. At a meeting of the Council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce on Monday a circular letter was received from Mf. W. Pryor (secretary of Die Shipowners’ Association) conveying”the intimation that he was convening a meeting of a.number of bodies, including the chambers of commerce Progress League, etc., to discuss the matter of providing a lifeboat for Wellington. The secretary (Mr. 11. I). Vickery) said he understood that Air. .Tames Moore, of Hie Sailors’ Friend Mission, held a sum of money as a trustee for a lifeboat for Wellington. The amount was about .£'so or ,£OO, and if such a sum could be made the nucleus of a fund. Air. Pryor thought that something might be done. Air. C. M. Banks asked if it were nosRtble for a lifeboat to live in a souther. Jy storm at (he Heads. Most of the wrecks here occurred during one of these southerlies. The president (Mr. Al. A. Carr), thought tha’ something might be done, and he and Mr. H. I). Bennett were appointed the chnnihgr’s delegates at the "Lifeboat Conference."
