POOR QUALITY GAS

HUTT COUNCILLOR COMPLAINS. At Monday’s meeting of the Lower Hutt Council, Councillor A. Maoaskill drew attention to the poor quality of the gas light in the council chambers. ‘‘lt’s hardly the thing to require a magnifying glans to read anything which is before you," remarked the speaker. The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Rishworth) said he certainly did not think that they were getting the correct pressure of gas. “The complaint is a general one,” ho added. Councillor Macuskill then made reference to the lighting nt his church on Sunday evening, when it had been found expedient, in order io maintain- a moderately good pressure, to keep only four burners going. The Mayor said that‘ns the Petone Council were experiencing labour troubles he did not think that any action at present would help the position. The matter would, however, be mentioned when the council met Petone at the proposed conference regarding the gas question.
