UNITED STATES NAVY

APPROPRIATIONS BILL PASSED BIG BUILDING PROGRAMME TO BE CONTINUED By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright. (Rec. February 15, 10.15 p.m.) Washington, February 14. Mr. Brooks (Illinois) has introduced in the House of Representatives an amendment to the Naval Appropriations Bill, providing that Air. Harding must call a disarmament conference before any funds are available for the continuance of the United States 1916 naval building programme.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (Rec. February 15, 10.30 p.m.) Washington, February 14.

The amendment to the Naval Appropriations Bill was defeated, and the entire measure passed, providing funds to carry out the 1916 building programme, which, when completed, will make the United States Navy larger than Britain’s. The measure, however, reduces the enlisted marine personnel from 170,000 to 120,000—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
