METHODIST CHURCH OF NEW ZEALAND
For the third time since the full consummation of Methodist Union in this Dominion the Methodist Conference will meet in this city. Nine years ago, on February 6, 1913, the Primitive -Methodists met in their Webb Street Church and marched to the Town Hall steps to join the Wesleyan representatives, thence together to Wesley Church, where the union was eflected 'to the ringing lefiain of “Crown Him Lord of All. Many will still remember the great demonstration in the Town Hall when, in the. presence of His Excellency the Governor, the deed ot union was completed. _ In 1917 the Dominion was in the throes of the world struggle, and the conference was largely concerned with the details ot supply, consequent upon the large depletion of ministerial workers, due to the voluntary enlistment not onlj’ as chaplains but as combatants of the young men of the ministry, but not so preoccupied as to forget local needs, and the work amongst our New Zealand Natives was a feature of its considerations. This year the first report of the specially organised Young People’s Department and the inauguration of the separate foreign mission field, the Solomon, islands, will give importance to the sessions. whilst the first meeting of the centenary celebrations will render this conference more than histoiic.
